CHAPLAIN THOMAS SIMONS CLARKSON
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Represented by Mr. Heriot Clarkson '61 of Manakin Sabot, Virginia.


The Chaplain Thomas Simons Clarkson Memorial Scholarship was established by his son, Heriot Clarkson '61, to provide scholarship grant-in-aid to a VMI cadet-athlete.

Chaplain Clarkson was a U.S. Army chaplain who served a regimental chaplain of the 331st Infantry, 83rd Division during World War II, and as hospital chaplain on Okinawa during the Korean War.

He was captain of high school football team, and was active in gymnastics, swimming and tennis. He also played on the Army tennis team. At the age of 53, Col. Clarkson won the Senior Tennis Championship at Fort Belvoir.


Cadet  Christine M. Beach '10 (Women's Soccer) is recognized in the name of the Chaplain Thomas Simons Clarkson Memorial Scholarship for the 2007-08 school year.
