The James Samuel "Sam" Gillespie III '94 Scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. James Samuel  Gillespie, Jr. '59 in memory of their son who was killed in an auto accident in 1992 during his 2nd Class year at VMI.

The scholarship will be used to assist cadet-athletes on the football team who have earned scholarship assistance from their contribution to the program during their fourth class year.

Following in his father's footsteps, Gillespie matriculated from Pounding Mill, Virginia, was a civil engineering major, and played as a defensive end for the Keydets. His grandfather, James Samuel Gillespie, also attended VMI with the Class of 1927.

for the 2007-08 school year.
