CAPTAIN G. ALVIN MASSENBURG-
VIRGINIA PILOTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Capt. G. Alvin Massenburg-Virginia Pilots Association Scholarship was established in 1968 by the Virginia Pilots Association in honor of Capt. G. Alvin Massenburg to assist an athlete from Virginia, preferably from the Hampton Roads area.

Massenburg was a noted Virginian and and was a member of the Virginia General Assembly from 1925-1950, during which time he was elected Speaker of the House for a two-year period.

He headed the Virginia Pilot Association for 26 years.

He died on November 25, 1968.

Throughout his life, Massenburg was an ardent supporter of VMI, especially athletics, and served on its Board of Visitors for 10 years. He was named an Honorary Alumnus of the Class of 1909.
