MATTHEW 25 SCHOLARSHIP

The Matthew 25 Scholarship was established to provide athletic scholarship assistance to cadet-athletes and student-athlete trainers who make full use of their God-given talents. It also serves to honor the example and contributions made to VMI by Frank W. McKinnon '56, an outstanding student-trainer.

McKinnon matriculated from Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated with a BA degree in biology. He received his MD from the Medical College of Georgia.

From 1962-64 he served as a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, after which he practiced as an orthopedic surgeon until his death in January 1996.

Mr. Dooley matriculated at VMI from Roanoke, Virginia, and received a BS degree in civil engineering. He earned his MS degree from Georgia Tech, and served in the U.S.Air Force AFCM from 1957-60 as a first lieutenant.

As a cadet Dooley was a varsity player on the VMI football team .

He founded R.T. Dooley, Inc., a general contracting company specializing in heavy commercial and utility projects in North and South Carolina. In 1960, after serving a tour in the Air Force, he began a distinguished career officiating college and professional football games. He has been recognized as one of the top referees in the NFL, and has traveled the country giving motivational talks based upon his NFL experiences.



Cadets Megan E. Strand '09 (Women's Soccer) and Jacob N. Rochester '09 (Football) recognized in the name of the Matthew 25 Scholarship for the 2007-08 school year, with Nancy and Tom Dooley '56, fund representatives.
