The Edward T. Merry '15 Athletic Scholarship was established in 1984 and provides grant-in-aid assistance to cadet-athletes.

Merry matriculated at VMI from Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated with a liberal arts degree.

As a cadet he participated in class football during his Third and First Class years, and baseball during his Third Class year.

He was the Marshal at the Final Ball in his Third Class year and the Final German in his First Class year.

Merry served in the U.S. Navy from 1918-1920. He and his brother, Howard Ray Merry, also VMI Class of 1915, were pioneers in exploring for oil in West Texas. He was a partner with Merry Brothers & Perini, Inc., in Mobile, Alabama, until his death in August 1983.

Throughout his adult life, Merry was an avid amateur golfer, and this scholarship will provide assistance to a golf athlete at VMI if the Institute offers a scholarship golf program.
