The Giles H. Miller, Jr. '24 Basketball Scholarship was established by the VMI Keydet Club Board of Governors in honor of Mr. Miller, better known to the VMI Family as "Mr. VMI."

The scholarship is presented to the basketball athlete who best exemplifies VMI's whole man concept.

Mr. Miller matriculated from Lynchburg, Virginia, and earned a BA degree in liberal arts. As a cadet, he was a member of the VMI Basketball Team, known then as the FLYING SQUADRON. He is a retired banker and has been very active in the Culpeper community throughout his life.

Mr. Miller has also served his alma mater since his graduation. He was president of the VMI Board of Visitors (1960-62), the VMI Alumni Association (1967-69), and the VMI Keydet Club (1975-77). He also received the VMI Foundation's highest award, the Distinguished Service Award, in 1972, and the Keydet Club's highest award, the SPIRIT OF VMI Award, in 1986.

Mr. Miller is recognized for coining the phrase "three-legged stool" in referring to VMI's all-encompassing education mission that focuses on academics, military/ leadership training and athletics.
