Endowed Scholarship Fund - Soccer
MG Stephen H. Sewell, Jr. '60 established this scholarship in 2001 to provide financial assistance to a soccer athlete who exemplifies those attributes and characteristics for which he has modeled his life and career--spirit, determination and a commitment to excellence. Sewell matriculated at VMI from Daytona Beach, Florida, and attended the Institute for 3 years. He graduated as a Distinguished Military Student with a BS degree in civil engineering. He entered the US Army in 1959, and upon discharge in 1961 joined the Reserve. At the time of his retirement he had attained the rank of major general. Sewell was a member of the soccer club sport throughout his cadetship, and served as captain of the 1958 and 1959 teams. He is considered VMI's best soccer player in the club-sport era. Sewell was president of Sewell Products, Inc., in Salem, Virginia, which he founded, before his retirement.
