The Rutherford H. Spessard '15 Baseball Scholarship, held by the VMI Development Board, was established in 1992 by Mr. Rutherford H. Spessard, Jr. '42 in honor of his father. It provides grant-in-aid to a baseball athlete.

Rutherford H. Spessard '15, who matriculated from New Castle, Virginia, was a Distinguished Graduate and earned a BS degree. He was also the recipient of the Jackson Hope Medal, 2nd Honor. 

He served in World War I, and was a major, AEF INF, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.

Mr. Spessard died in 1955.
