Endowed Scholarship Fund - Unrestricted
The Margaret Turner Swink Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 to provide grant-in-aid to a VMI cadet-athlete, Mrs. Swink, who died on November 25, 1994, was the vice president and retail manager of the VMI book store for over 30 years. Her pleasant personality and concern for others were a welcome source of reassurance for all cadets who crossed her path and depended on the PX as a retreat from the demands of the Institute. She and her husband, "Halfie," were charter members of the VMI Big Brothers program. In addition to her duties at VMI, Mrs. Swink taught sewing classes at the Rockbridge Regional Jail and was an active member of the Lexington Golf and Country Club. She was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, and a former Cub Scout den mother. She had also modeled for Thomas Oak & Son.
