Endowed Scholarship Fund - Football
The Vaughan Taylor Memorial Scholarship was established by J. Vaughan Taylor '38 in memory of his father. It provides scholarship assistance to football athletes, with preference given to those cadets who may struggle academically but possess the character and ability that would make them "objects of honest pride to their instructors and fair specimens of citizen-soldiers." Taylor had two sons who attended VMI: J. Vaughan Taylor '38 and John S. Taylor '40. He was also the grand-father of four VMI graduates: James Vaughan Taylor, Jr. '64, Hunter Fitzgerald Taylor '67, Robert Hill Taylor '75 and John Stafford Taylor, Jr. '79. J. Vaughan Taylor '38 matriculated from Roanoke, Virginia. He was the retired owner of Besco Chemical Co. of Virginia prior to his death in August 1997.
