The Jerome E. Williams '82 Memorial Track Scholarship was established by members of the Class of 1982 to honor their late Brother Rat who died in August 1997 at the young age of 36.

The scholarship provides grant-in-aid to a track athlete who exemplifies spirit, determination and a commitment, and, preferably, who is a rising First Classman and who came to VMI after attending a small high school (Division 2A or lower).

Williams matriculated at VMI from Swoope, Virginia, and graduated with a BS degree in civil engineering.

As a cadet, Williams was a standout hurdler for the VMI track team. He was awarded the Hardin Massie track award as the athlete best exemplifying the spirit of VMI.

He was also recognized by his Brother Rats as a generous, lively, funny and determined man of great heart and deep spirit.
