FRED FORT FLOWERS '40 SCHOLARSHIP

Represented by Mr. Daniel F. Flowers '40 of Houston, Texas.


Fred Flowers '40

Daniel F. Flowers '40 established this scholarship in memory of his twin brother, Fred Fort Flowers '40, to provide scholarship assistance to cadet-athletes at VMI who participate in non-revenue sports.

At VMI, Flowers was academically distinguished for four years, won the Jackson Hope Medal for civil engineering and tied with his twin brother for the French Medal in mathematics. He was also on the swimming team during his cadetship.

After graduation, Flowers served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-46 and later attained the rank of major in the Air Force Reserve.

He received a second BS degree, a master of science and a doctor of science degree, all in mechanical engineering, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Flowers worked for Difco, Inc., for 50 years, serving as president from 1967 until his death in 1985.


Cadets Daniel G. Wood '09 and Kyle O. Rucker '10 (both Baseball) are recognized
in the name of the Fred Fort Flowers '40 Scholarship for the 2007-08 school year.
